b+j do BJV (don't!)

a first-time europe trip without seeing paris just seemed wrong, but it wasn't the stop we were most excited about. i mean, paris always seemed so cliché and overrated...like U2 or jogging. can it really be *that* fantastic?

turns out, it is.

after our early train from london, we had a train wreck of our own. it took us over an hour to find/get money, find/buy metro tickets, and find/use the bathroom. and when we rode the metro into the city, it took quite a while to figure out that "sortie" meant exit. yikes. we found our hostel easily (BJV Quartier Latin—see sidebar under BEDS), but i sort of wish we never would have found it at all. first of all, they gave us a key and sent us up to "our" room, which turned out to be occupied...luckily only by strewn-about towels and clothes, not the actual guests. still, doesn't leave you with a positive feeling about the privacy of our quarters. not to mention that the room was like a dorm, but worse. we doubled up the mattress for a more deluxe experience, which is why in the pic below you only see a wire frame on the left. trés chic!

but! we were in paireeeeeeee! hostel, schmostel!
walking along the seine was like a dream. people watching + drinking cappuccino was a drug. ("we should move here!") we had our fair share of bread and cheese, too. and notre dame, the louvre and more cheese and bread and cheesey bread. oui oui oui!

I loved Paris, too! But I am not totally cliche' cuz I will not conform to the evils of U2 and jogging - I promise!
